US creates the post of Coordinator for the Arctic Region

The US Department of State has appointed Jim DeHart as the first US Coordinator for the Arctic Region, reads an official statement on the Department's website.

Serving as the principal advisor to the Secretary and the Deputy Secretary on all Arctic matters, DeHart will lead and coordinate the Department's policy-making and diplomatic engagement on Arctic-related issues to advance US interests in the region related to safety, security, and sustainable economic growth.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo previously said that the United States and its Arctic allies and partners were resolved to ensure stability and sustainable development in the region.
