Nizhny Novgorod Mayor resigns ahead of schedule to promote Arctic development

Vladimir Panov will work now as a Special Representative on the development of the Arctic at the Rosatom State Corporation. The news was announced after an extraordinary session of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma where the deputies supported his decision to resign ahead of time.

"The main challenge was to prepare the city and conduct the World Cup. The city was changing rapidly right before our eyes. Thanks to the governor's personal involvement a metro station was completed and Nizhne-Volzhskaya Embankment opened. Together we cleaned up and improved the entire city, repaired facades and roads, maintained public order and displayed genuine Nizhny Novgorod hospitality," noted Vladimir Panov in his remarks.

According to Rosatom, Panov's responsibilities will include coordination between Rosatom, as an infrastructure operator of the Northern Sea Route, and the authorities — both federal and regional — which are engaged in the development of the Arctic area and Russian regions along the Northern Sea Route.
