Alexander Krutikov’s stuck-at-home Arctic book list

Deputy Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic Alexander Krutikov recommends reading a book titled The Seamy Side of White: The Arctic from Vikings to Papanin Expedition, written by Ramiz Aliyev, to learn more about the Arctic during self-isolation.

"The entire history of the exploration of the Arctic is full of large-scale, thrilling and sometimes dramatic events. But people have always been drawn to the Arctic despite all the obstacles that exist there. This book tells us how it is possible to long to be in such a place, in the kingdom of ice and silence, and the meaning of the Arctic for the humankind throughout various periods of time," says Alexander Krutikov's review in the short list published on the ministry's website.
