A team of illustrators from the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area release a comic book about a Far North superhero

The first comic book featuring northern superheroes is hot off the press in Yamal, with the first 300 copies already in bookshops.

According to the creators, the main character is a boy called Yamal, who joins the battle against forces of evil. They drew inspiration from local myths and legends.

“The plot is based on the legend of the God Nga, who was committed to prison after an attempt to seize absolute power. His henchmen try to set him free. At the same time, the gods of light withdrew from our world, leaving lesser gods to look after it. And now, ordinary people have to decide whose side they should take, and this choice will determine the shape of the world,” project founder Alexander Khutorenko says.

He added that the book could make an excellent gift from the Arctic. The team are using their own funds to create the superhero epic, but they hope that the project will find support, making it possible for them to release a second book.
