The Revenant communications tower located in Sabetta

Megafon's basic station named The Revenant was constructed in the seaport of Sabetta, a rotational village, reports the local media citing the company's press service. As was explained, the communications tower was named after the movie featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, whose character was able to survive in a harsh climate.

"Sabetta is located far in the north. The low temperatures are extreme here, winds are constantly blowing and there are large piles of snow. The location and life conditions are similar to that of the Oscar-winning movie, and, by the way, there are bears, too. Now our mobile "Leonardo DiCaprio" helps journalists, visitors and workers stay in touch with their families and friends as well as to access the internet from the edge of the earth," Yakov Pakhomi, Megafon development manager in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area, said.

On March 5, Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolai Nikiforov said that the ministry had prepared the final draft of the satellite communications development program in the Arctic and the document had already been submitted to the government.

"We have all the necessary calculations. Now financing is the only question, but the program has been submitted in general," the minister noted having been asked about the plans to introduce the final draft of the satellite communications development program in the Arctic to the government.

Last year, the ministry proposed the creation of a group of high-orbit satellites to provide telecommunications in the Arctic.
