Human rights in the Arctic to be discussed in Murmansk

An offsite meeting of the Presidential Council for Human Rights dedicated to problems facing the Arctic will be held in Murmansk, Head of the Council Mikhail Fedotov said.

"Early next year, when the polar night reigns supreme there, the Presidential Council for Human Rights will arrive here and hold an offsite meeting dedicated to Arctic issues," he was quoted as saying by Interfax.

Invitations to take part in the offsite meeting will be sent to civic activists from the Komi Republic, Yamal-Nenets and Nenets autonomous areas, Sakha (Yakutia) Republic, Krasnoyarsk Territory and Arkhangelsk Region.

"A wide range of topics will be discussed, including issues concerning ethnic minorities, traditional crafts and housing conditions, and environment," he said.
